“Film by Artist” press conference & screening
Date & Time: 2017.11.12 16:30- 18:30
Venue:  Shanghai West Bund Art Center Hall B

“Film by Artist” will launch its first press conference and screening program at 16:30 on November 12, 2017, at West Bund Art Center.

“Film by Artist” is a non-profit program inviting contemporary artists to make short films, which are aimed at introducing artistic concepts and languages from diverse contemporary artists to a much broader audience through the media of short movies, and it also explores the possibilities of creating linkages between the concept of “video work” in a contemporary art context and the idea of “movie” in the wider cultural industry level. Meanwhile, it provides artists with a working platform that is differentiated from the present exhibition system in the art world and, thus, effectively stimulates the creative energy within the contemporary field of art by introducing alternative tastes and inspirations.

Established in May 2016, “Film by Artist” has collaborated with artist Jiang Zhi, Chen Xiaoyun, Tao Hui, Fang Lu, Xin Yunpeng to produce five films. In this conference, we will present Tao Hui's Private City, Xin Yunpeng and Ye Qiusen's Yanqi Lake, and Fang Lu's Canton Novelty (selected into the 2017 Vancouver International Film Festival). This is also the premiere of these three films in China. The event will be accompanied by a conversation between curator Bao Dong, producer Xie Meng, and artist Tao Hui, Xin Yunpeng, Ye Qiusen.

This event is co-hosted by New Century Art Foundation and Beijing Yishujia Culture Diffusion Limited, and is part of the public program of 2017 West Bund Art & Design.
