Not-for-profit art organizations encourage new artistic experimentation, and ensures the constant vitality and diversity of art. It is emerging in mainland China, and today is a crucial moment for its development as the objective conditions it needs are becoming ready. This talk will introduce outstanding not-for-profit independent art spaces from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Europe and Latin America, and give practitioners in China a better understanding of their motivations, the roles they play in their regional ecosystems, and their operational and curatorial strategies.
About the guest:
Anthony Yung is co-founder of Observation Society, an independent art space in Guangzhou. Established in 2009, Observation Society is completely not-for-profit. It aims at development new and experimental projects with artists, and encouraging understanding and critical discourses in contemporary art. Yung is also a senior researcher at Asia Art Archive.
